Today I want to share a layout that I made using the fun February Add On kit…..

As a Filipina, it’s part of my DNA to make Lumpia (filipino eggrolls) and when my parents came to visit for my son’s baptism last summer, my mom and I along with my daughter made some eggrolls for the brunch after the event. It fills my heart with a big pride to see three generations of eggroll makers.

As for the design, I started with a grid look so I can fit as many photos as I can and then I added some  handcut flowers (from one of the October Afternoon papers) as my visual triangle. I also punched out some paper squares, rolled them up and then added them on the page to mimic eggrolls. Baker’s twine and a vintage journaling tag finished off the look. Here’s some close ups….

So there you have it. I can’t wait to show off some March projects soon.

My post today (which should have been posted yesterday) is all about a new trend in scrapbooking…….wooden shapes. The February add on kit came with 2 of the fabulous Maya Road wooden doilies. They were so much fun to play with considering all of the different options there are to decorate them.

I chose to jazz up my wooden doilies by using different colors of mists. This first example, I chose to spritz my doily with some yellow mist (October Afternoon Lemon Drop).  I love the way it came out looking like a piece of wood that had a coat of stain applied to it. I also applied some acrylic paint to create the circle for a little more dimension.

And here is my second example where I used Tattered Angels’  Black Magic mist.

I actually kept pretty true to the layout (which is unusual for me)   I really loved this sketch, and had a lot of fun with it.

Now for the tip…notice the red border around the kraft cardstock? I added it to bring out a bit of color, like the “food” alpha letters and the red in the cute little banner.  But, instead of adding a whole sheet of the red cardstock, and wasting the part that would be behind the kraft cardstock (and not be seen) I cut out the center of the red, leaving only a frame.

You don’t have to worry about a precise or even cut since it will become the back part of your layout.

Before adding your newly cut “frame” to the back of your layout, be sure to cut 1/4″ off of two sides of your layout (such as the right side and top) so that your original layout is  11 3/4 x 11 3/4. This now makes room to add your “frame” to the back of your layout, adding a pop of color and contrast.  Oh, and the best part, I have that center piece of cardstock that I  cut out that can be used on another layout or even turned into a cute card!

Today I am going to share with you a card that I made based off of Grace’s fabulous sketch, using the fabulous “Grandma’s Attic” add-on.I am going to start by saying that I am not much of a cardmaker. I’m not sure what it is about them, but they intimidate me ALOT! When I saw the sketch for this month though, I was instantly inspired!

I loved the die cut background Grace used on her sketch, so I kept with that same theme, though I switched out the circle for a fun double chevron background. Instead of having the four seperate blocks, I chose to put mine into a cluster in the middle of the card. I think that when you look at this you can pick up bits and pieces of the sketch, but you can obviously see that I put my own touch on it.

I hope you choose to play along with the sketch, and have some fun with it!! Make sure you link your creations! I would love to see what you create!

I love this cute ticket that comes in the kit:

I went with a card sketch and although Valentine’s day is done, you have the other 364 days to share card to a loved one and this sketch will hopefully help you with that. I decided to go with four blocks in the middle and as you will see in my samples, you don’t have to stick with the block design, you can replace these squares for whatever shape you want it to be.

So here are my samples…

All cards were made with the February Add on kit. Have you got yours? It’s a great kit so don’t miss your chance of creating with it.

I have always wanted to do a layout with lots of circles I have seen many amazing scrappers do them and every time I tried they just looked wrong but I was determined as I thought this kit would be perfect with all the pretty papers.  I used a lot of the blues from the kit and everything you see but the alpha’s is in the kit, pretty amazing huh, I tell you these kits have enough to make 10 layouts and in fact I might just do that next kit!  But for now here is the layout I made…

I really enjoyed making this quick and easy layout and mixing things about and finally jumping out and doing something I had always wanted, scrapping with circles…..

This project uses the canvas piece included in the Project Kit “Home Grown” found HERE. The size is 6 inches by 12 inches and has so many possibilities! Most of the embellishments on the Canvas Project “Our Sweet Home” come from the Add-On Kit “Grandma’s Attic” found HERE. The cute bird rub-ons and book pages are from the Project Kit “Home Grown.” Note: the big grey letters are from the January Project Kit “Life is Sweet.” Here are some close ups:

I painted the edge of the canvas with the paint that comes in the Project Kit “Home Grown.” After it dried I used a piece of sanding paper to scrape a little bit of it off for a distressed look. I then wrapped the outer edge of the canvas project in Washi Tape-yep! That’s found in the Add-On Kit “Grandma’s Attic!” I invite you to come check out the kits HERE and become a member today!
