Today, I am sharing some of this months’ Add on kit: Picket Fence and Washi Tape love with you!  I use washi tape for just about anything…wrapping gifts, adding decor to an envelope, to highlight a spot to sign my name on notes to my girls’ in their lunches, the list goes on and on!  I have had a long time love for this awesome stuff!  Sarah has her shop full of yummy washi tape…have you checked it out?  I just ordered some and I cannot wait to play!

In this layout I created about our recent trip to Disneyland…I’ve covered this little wooden shape with the train ticket Washi Tape.  Adding the little wood family makes it pop, and you know I love contrasts!  Little washi tape embellies can be used on any project!

I am going to start by saying, I am not a card maker, at all, I really struggle with putting together cards, but every month when I see Grace’s card sketch. It comes together so easily for me. They are always simple, clean, and easy, but I love that I have her sketch to start off from, maybe one of these day, when I get a little more comfortable I can make an elaborate card based of the sketches!

Here is my card.

I kept with the idea of the die cut elements and the sentiment being in the middle, I just moved it all over to the left. For my die cut, I simple traced one of the fabulous hand made tags that came in the kit  onto some of the equally fabulous patterned paper, and made my own little tag.

Everything used came in the May add-on kit “Picket Fence” except the twine I used. This kit is fabuluos! Full of so many fun elements and colors, so definitely hurry and scoop yours up before they sell out!! They will no doubt go fast!!

I have been inspired by shapes lately and this card reflects that. I love scrolls and I made the points of the scrolls in these shapes point to the center so that it’ll lead the eye straight to the fun stuff on this card. Here’s my take on the sketch…..

I was inspired to make a gatefold type card with the sketch. I rounded the corners of my card which was inspired by the shape in the sketch.

I used the awesome May Add on kit for this card and added some washi tape as well. Did you know that Sarah filled the store with some washi tape goodness? Make sure you check it out as they will sell out fast. *wink*

I layered some Crate Paper stickers for the sentiment and wrap of my gatefold card. I also added two small wood woman shapes on there. They are fun and quite addicting, I should say!

I also made another card based on the sketch…..

I’ve collected quite a few brackets and I used two of them here. They mimic the scroll shape of my sketch and I placed my sentiment in the center. The flowers are handcut from paper and I added some bling to it for extra shine.

I spray misted the brackets to give it their color and some shine to it was well. So that’s my take on the sketch. Now it’s your turn.

My layout today: This is my story comes from the awesome Add On kit: Picket Fence!  One of the things I cherish most about Sarah’s kits are her adorable tags she adds in!  And with this tag…my title was born!

Every now and then, there’s just that ONE photo that I love to enlarge big time…this is just THAT photo!  And when I saw the tag…I knew it was the perfect piece to have the layout evolve from.  I knew the focal points were going to be my daughter’s photo and the tag:)  So, I added the beautiful doily, and cut some banners from the gorgeous papers:)

In this kit, my other FAVORITE thing are these little wood veneer people:)  How cute are these?

The journaling came so easily…thanks Sarah for these awesome pieces in your brilliant kit!

Did you know that Samuel Clemens, also known as Mark Twain and as the author of Tom Sawyer and Huckelberry Finn, was also an avid scrapbooker? Starting out as a hobby he reserved just for Sundays, Mark Twain was often seen carrying a scrapbook around with him. Eventually, after getting tired of working with hardened paste and glue, he set out to make a better type of scrapbook and a new business venture was started. In 1872  Mark Twain received Patent # 140245 for “Improvement in Scrapbooks”. He developed scrapbook pages that were self-sticking, with thin strips of glue printed on the pages to make updates neat and easy to do.  By 1901, at least 57 different types of his albums were available.

This idea was one of his most profitable inventions, and according to an article in the the St. Louis Post-Dispatch  in 1885, Mark Twain made $50,000 for his scrapbook and only received $200,000 for all of his other books combined!

Twain’s scrapbooks held items that revealed not only things about his life, but also about the times in which he lived. Most entries focused on  Mark Twain as a public figure and author.  Newspaper clippings, book reviews, drawings, cartoons, photos, letters, envelopes and even checks can all be found carefully placed between the pages. Other scrapbooks, maintained by his family who added items after he died, include entries that discuss his children’s lives,  his last hours, funeral, will, estate and bequests.

So the next time you add a page to your scrapbook, remember that Mark Twain was one of our early scrapbooking pioneers.

For my project today, I wanted to get started on gift bags for mother’s day presents for this weekend, have to have the bags before the presents, right?? lol. I kept looking through my kit, and my leftovers from past kits, trying to decide exactly what I wanted to put together. One thing I noticed that I had lots of, was all of those fabulous vintage newspaper bags that Sarah packs your kit embellies in. I love the look of those bags, and couldn’t believe that I hadn’t used any of them before. So with one newspaper bag and my fabulous May kit in hand, I came up with this, in my opinion :p, adorable little gift bag!

Everything you see here is included in the May add-on, along with so many more goodies!! Trust me, you will want to scoop this one up!

First I took the lace doily that comes in your kit and took the twine that was wrapped around the bag of goodies and stitched around the doily.

Next I inked the doily.

I took one of the square pieces of fabric that comes in the kit and stitched around the square.

And then pull the stitching closed to make a flower.

And here you can see I add the pin that was in the kit and some Crate Paper stickers and a cute SC chipboard piece.  It says “Mothers hold their children’s hand for a short while, but their hearts forever.”
